I read all sorts of books and articles on writing and creativity. So much of what those guides say is to just sit down and write. Let it all spill out. Get it down on the page. Write 1,000 words a day. All well and good.
But what I never see is how to translate that into revisions and editing. Because that is at least as important (if not more so) than getting words on a page. I’m up to my eyeballs in a massive edit of a book that is basically finished, but written over eight years. Trying to get the motivation, let alone keep it up, is tough. So tough that I’m not making any real headway.
I’ve got to find some inspiration to really get down to it. I love the characters in this book and really want them to come alive. The struggle is real.
