I've recently started working freelance. I don't have many clients so far, but I am doing a lot of writing for several companies. Of course, it is all non-fiction. In fact, my work-related writings range from insurance journalism to self-help to pure marketing. Sometimes this sort of writing comes to me really easily. And sometimes, like writing fiction, it takes a lot out of me to produce even a few short paragraphs.
Another issue I'm facing is that in spending so much time on non-fiction, I have no time or energy for fiction. I'm 30,000 words into a new novel and am completely stuck. I sit down to work on it and find that my thoughts are taken up with the latest work project I'm doing. Or, I just stare at the screen not being able to get into the mindset of fiction.
This course is still new for me. I'd like to get to a place where I can get my work done and not have it impede on my creative writing. One day, I'm sure.
